A Walk Through University Of Santo Tomas

Most high school students have University of Santo Thomas in their list of dream schools. But for those who won’t be able to study here, a simple visit would be enough. It will be a great opportunity to have a little tour inside the oldest university in the Philippines. So, for now, let me share my own walk through University of Santo Tomas to you, especially to those who haven’t visited it yet so you may have an idea of what is inside the university.

University of Santo Tomas welcomed me with this famous and historical Arch of the Centuries. During the Thomasian Welcome Walk, all students enter the arch. But as you will notice, they never go out of that arch because there’s this myth saying that they will never graduate if they go out of it until Baccalaureate Mass. By the way, reaching the Arch of Centuries is great because the breezy Lovers’ Lane will greet us.

Main Building

My friend commented that it’s the Hogwarts of UST but the inside may be creepy, especially during the night. Hmm, okay? But UST is proud of it because of its old existence. And now, it functions as the university’s administrative center and home of the Faculty of Civil Law, Faculty of Pharmacy and College of Science. The monument in front of the building is Father Miguel de Benavides’, whose finger, students said, points FEU. I just forgot why.

UST Santisimo Rosario Chapel

Known as the biggest Catholic school in the Philippines, UST won’t be complete without a church. That’s why it is the first place I visited in UST. Serving as a spiritual haven for the Thomasian community, the UST Chapel, Santisimo Rosario Chapel, is the most appropriate place for the Thomasian practice of faith. This parish church is housed by the Central Seminary Building wherein the Ecclesiastical Faculties live. I must say that the façade of this church is beautifully made.

Miguel de Benavides Library

So, yes, this is the library of UST named after the monument that we mention earlier. Miguel de Benavides Library has been in continuous service since the day it was established. Even wars did not interrupt this service. But for students, it is the best hangout spot for those students who want, not just to study, but to sleep. Aside from being a quiet place for sleepers, it is also possess air conditioners that will comfort them in their sleep.

St. Raymond Penafort Building

As you can see, St. Raymond Penafort Building is the only college building, except for the Main Building, that I took photo. It is simply because it is the first and only building I entered. It is the place where I took my USTET, which I luckily passed. I can remember the long line of takers in front, back then. But as I saw this building for the second time, I spotted a lot of chicks and found out that they’re from AB and Commerce that took place in this building.
