Best Of Christina Grimmie

best of Christina Grimmie

Everyone’s devastated, heartbroken and angry at once when we discovered the death of Christina Grimmie. Sadly, there’s nothing we can do about it anymore but to wish her rest in peace. You will be missed down here, Christina. And as tribute, I created my own hit chart consisting all the best of Christina Grimmie. When posting such on other artists, I usually choose their own songs. However, this list is more of her covers. I think that’s alright since she’s known and became known for making covers.

And oh, my friend says that the photo above needs some explanation. As you can see, I’m not subscribed to Christina Grimmie’s channel. But I don’t subscribe to anyone on Youtube! I’m not really active on using my account, which includes uploading, subscribing and such. I’m just searching what I want and enjoying the music and videos. I’m really a frequent listener of her voice. You’ll find out how and why when you reached my top Christina Grimmie song. For now, let’s start with my top ten song choice.

10. I Bet You Don’t Curse God

There’s pain, Life hurts
There’s a thousand things
You think you don’t deserve
All hope is lost
When You spend it all
And you just can’t beat the odds
I bet you don’t curse God
I bet you don’t curse God

Oh! She’s a child of God and I love her more because of that. There’s a good message about God she was trying to convey here. Honestly, she’s one of the few young artists who can actually sing, and at the same time, shares meaningful songs. What a treasured human being and an inspiration to many! Now, the angel’s choir has a new and amazing recruit.

9. Fireflies

I’d like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly
It’s hard to say that I’d rather stay awake when I’m asleep
‘Cause everything is never as it seems
When I fall asleep

I always admire Christina’s voice and way of singing in Owl City’s Fireflies. Watching her covers, we can figure out that she properly chooses songs that suits her voice, give each a unique take, which I call the Christina style, and practice it until it’s perfect. That’s one of the secrets of her covers’ fame. There’s no wonder why she gained huge number of subscribers.

8. Liar Liar

Liar liar, don’t cry on my shoulder
You played with fire
And smiled when you told her
Wo-ah, oh, thought you were someone
Ah-oh, oh goodbye to no one

If I could marry voice, instead not boys, maybe I’ll choose Christina’s. It is so flexible and skillful on numbers with low and high notes, fast and slow tempos and loud and soft genres. This one, I guess, is slow, soft and low and high at once. And did you see how powerful it is? I don’t know if I’m crying because of the song or because of what happened to her.

7. Feelin’ Good

I got that sunshine
It’s like the world is mine
I can’t deny I’m feeling good
Can’t stop from smiling
I’m bottled lightning
Deep inside I’m feeling good

As I scan through the lyrics word by word, I can tell that she’s really feeling good. It’s also obvious on her vocals and her actions on the video. While the people down here, we’re feeling bad and having nostalgia on that day when she was that lively, fun and happy. Speaking of the video, my heart melted when she showcased her fans performing her song. She loves us!

6. The Heart Wants What It Wants

The bed’s getting cold and you’re not here
The future that we hold is so unclear
But I’m not alive until you call
And I’ll bet the odds against it all
Save your advice ’cause I won’t hear
You might be right but I don’t care
There’s a million reasons why I should give you up
But the heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants

Christina’s cover on The Heart Wants What It Wants is listed here because she had shown her funny side again. That was the moment when she ended up being in a bathroom. But seriously, it’s listed here because she had shown her support for her close friend, Selena Gomez. There’s nothing to compare. Selena’s version was strong while Christina’s catch on it was sweet. They’re both fine though.

5. Dark Horse

So you wanna play with magic
Boy, you should know what you’re falling for
Baby do you dare to do this?
Cause I’m coming at you like a dark horse
Are you ready for, ready for
A perfect storm, perfect storm
Cause once you’re mine, once you’re mine
There’s no going back

I remember Christina singing this on the stage of the voice. She was awesome and lovely. I hope Katy Perry’s fans won’t be offended but I think Christina’s version is better than the original. When I heard the Dark Horse of Katy Perry. I was already satisfied on the way it was sung. But when I heard this cover by Christina, I realized that this song has more to give.

4. Focus

Let’s find a light inside our universe now
Where ain’t nobody keep on holding us down
Just come and get it, let them say what they say
Cause I’m about to put them all away

There are three grounds to love this cover by our star, together with Mike Tompkins. First, it was an Ariana Grande song! And as mentioned in my blog post, English Singers We Want, she’s my most favorite singer. But Christina’s one of them, too. Moving onto the second, that instrument sound imitation was brilliant! And third, she’s killing it!

3. My Anthem

Oooo, I wanna live for the moments.
That are gone before we’re thinkin’ about them.
I’m singin’ this cause we’d be nothin’ without them,
and this is my anthem, yeah.

I agree that this is her anthem because I can see her personality between the verses – a down-to-earth lady who lightly talks to us. The song seems so random like she just wrote down what popped to her mind yet the lyrics composed is so fantastic that every lines still match and rhyme. Listening to her anthem brings me happy vibes.

2. Wrecking Ball

I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me

From the moment I heard this cover during her blind audition, my bet for the sixth season of The Voice is Christina, up to now that it is in its 11th season. I just can’t move on. And there’s another thing to get over – her death. Have you heard her say that the performance was for her mother so that she can see her on stage and on TV? Why does it have to stop so early?

1. Just A Dream

I was thinking ’bout her, thinking ’bout me
Thinking ’bout us, what we gon’ be
Open my eyes yeah, it was only just a dream
So I travelled back down that road
Will she come back? No one knows
I realize, yeah, it was only just a dream

Aside from the beauty that the voices of Christina and Sam Tsui epitomize in this song by Nelly, the reason why this cover sentimental and leading on my top list is the memory when my first boyfriend, and hopefully my last, presented me a slideshow with this song as a background on one Valentine’s day. That’s when I knew about Christina, too!
