Hugot Lines From Pinoy Movies

hugot lines from moviesOne reason why we love watching local movies is because of the dramatic statements that the characters utter abruptly. In fact, it is an essential component of a movie because sometimes, these painful speeches makes the movie powerful for it to be relatable to the viewers. You have to agree that these words are the ones that speaks to us as we are watching movies, aside from the casts and the story itself.

In today’s generation, we call this powerful and dramatic statements as hugot lines. It means that these lines are pulled out deeply from the very bottom of the speaker’s heart. Every people have miserable experiences in their lives that’s why sometimes, they let go dramatic words. And with these speeches, the person, with whom they are conversing, usually answers “Saan mo nahugot yan?” or “Where did you dig those words?” to break the sorrow.

We can see that hugot lines are popularized just now, but did you know that they already take place even before movies are invented? Oh yes, even the very first movie has them. And with that, I collected some catchy hugot lines from your favorite movies.

“She loved me at my worst. You had me at my best, but binalewala mo lang ang lahat. And you chose to break my heart.”

Arguably the best hugot film of all time, One More Chance delves into a storyline many long-time couples can relate to. Among all of them, this statement from Popoy made everyone cry.

“Oh yes, kaibigan mo ako. Kaibigan mo lang ako. And I’m so stupid to make the biggest mistake of falling in love with my
best friend!” – Jolina Magdangal, Labs Kita, Okay Ka Lang?

Another story of being friendzoned, Paano Na Kaya also delivered a lot of hugots, mainly from Mae, who is in love with her best friend, Bogs. So why did she say such words? Well, I suggest that you watch it and know it yourself.

“Mahal mo ba ako dahil kailangan mo ako? o kailangan mo ako kaya mahal mo ako?” – Claudine Baretto, Milan

milan

I rewatch Milan recently in Cinema One and I noticed that the options Jenny gave has the same thought. Both questions convey the same thing. However, that’s not the point here. The point here is how it catches our hearts.

“I was willing to wait. Kaya lang napagod ako – napagod ang puso ko na maghintay, magtanong, magalit.” – Piolo Pascual,
Starting Over Again

starting over again

A pair of exes run into each other again years after a breakup that left them with plenty of unresolved questions – the scenario of most couples today. This causes Marco to state a hugot line like this.

“Hindi ako perfect and kahit kailan, hindi ko hihilingin na maging perfect ka. Ang hihilingin ko, subukan mong baguhin
ang sarili mo para maramdaman mo na karapat-dapat ka. But you never tried.” – Bea Alonzo, She’s the One

shes the one

This may be another story of being friendzoned, but this time, the statement is from the point of view of the friend being loved. And what Kat said maybe true, that you have to change so that your love will be returned.

“Oo na! Ako na! Ako na ang mag-isa!” – Jennylyn Mercado, English Only Please

english only please

It was when Tere, was going to commute using bus and the conductor shouted, “Baka meron diyang
mag-isa lang! Walang boyfriend, walang asawa, walang kamag-anak, o, isa na lang, larga na!” and she blurted the line out.

“Pero wala pala sa tagal ng relasyon yun. Kung gusto ka niyang lokohin, lolokohin ka niya. Pag hindi ka na niya mahal,
hindi ka na niya mahal.” – Angelica Panganiban, That Thing Called Tadhana

Dubbed as the hugot movie of the year, That Thing Called Tadhana will definitely have an entry which is this line of Mace
