Talk Back And You’re Dead Book Review

Talk Back and You're Dead

Have you ever thought how will it be if you have a hot headed boyfriend who is a leader of a gang and who always give you a threat like “Talk back and you’re dead?” Oh no, I will be dead if I am the girl. But you know what, my friends told me that bad boys are sweet lovers. At first, I don’t agree with them, but after I read Talk Back and You’re Dead, I changed my mind. This story of Samantha, Top, Red and Audrey is a great proof that these boys are sweet lovers because they only show their good side on the one that they love.

Aside from their situation that a gangster, Top, falls in love with a top notcher girl, Samantha, the story includes great twist brought by Samantha’s amnesia. Back then, Samantha, Top, Red and Audrey were childhood friends. But after the amnesia incident, Top and Red became gangsters and Samantha and Audrey became school rivals. Everything changes except for Top’s love for Samantha. Ever since Samantha’s family hides her from Top, he kept on looking for her. And ever since, he had been loyal to her. See how a gangster falls in love?

The story ends with Samantha lying inside a morgue. The doctors thought that she was dead after being drown in a pool, so they placed her there. But she was alive! I know, this occurrence is not realistic but Samantha’s reaction was so funny when she found out that she was lying there. The book has also a good and unique start. In most love stories, couples first meet by bumping into each other. That is so common! In Talk Back and You’re Dead, Samantha and Top met in a one-of-a-kind way through a funny prank done by a truth or dare game played by her friends, the Crazy Trios. About the body of the story, sorry to say but I couldn’t sum up all the wonders that is in this book.

I love how the characters were created. I love how crazy and weird the Crazy Trios were. I love how cool the Lucky 13 were. I love how annoying the attitude of Audrey. I love how Red behaved whenever Samantha and Top are acting sweet in his front. I love how Samantha fights for their love. But most of all, I love the whole Timothy Odelle Pendleton a.k.a. Top. I love the way he hides his weaknesses to Samantha and to the people around him. I love how he fights in other gangs. I love how he avoids his bad habits just because Samantha told so. I love how he acted jealously. Despite of having an epitome of being a gangster, he is still a person who has heart. Readers will definitely love him.

I have to recognize the flowery words of the author that exaggerates the scenes. But instead of making it weird, it makes the story exciting. I just don’t like it when the author includes herself as one of the characters. I can’t remember if that was just an author’s note but all I know is that it makes the story confusing for me. Well, I read Talk Back and You’re Dead in Wattpad App, so I don’t know if they released those unnecessary stories in published books.

Anyway, I have a question. Is the author of this book, Alesana Marie and the author of Sadist Lover, Aril Daine, related to each other? I just noticed that they have something in common when it comes to writing. Other than that, Aril is one of the characters in Talk Back and You’re Dead and Alesana is one of the barkada in Sadist Lover. However, they are both professional-like writers. I salute you, ms. Author!
