A Throwback Timeline For Technology
Gadgets, electronics, technologies everywhere! So impressive, so unbelievable inventions! I wonder how all these began because without them, Iphone won’t be Iphone. Without them, laptops won’t be laptops. Facebook won’t be Facebook. SLRs won’t be SLRs. LEDs won’t be LEDs. Skype won’t be Skype. Xbox won’t be Xbox. The technologies today won’t be possible without the technologies back then.
While reading the TG magazine, I discovered how the technology has improved and improved and improved as time goes by. In their article, they lists down 10 of the coolest tech innovations ever.
1948 – Polaroid Camera, an instant camera
Fan of taking selfies and getting its hard copy? It has been around for decades, right? Thanks to the invention of instant cameras and self-developing film for they let us get a printed copy of our picture straight out of the camera
1979 – Sony Walkman, a portable music player
How about listening to music? Let’s imagine people back then just stay in one place or carrying their big cassette just to listen to music. But now, Listening to a cassette tape anytime and anywhere became possible with the Sony Walkman.
1983 – Family Computer, a gaming console
Your childhood isn’t complete if you don’t know the brothers Mario and Luigi. The Family computer helped us know and have fun with them. In other countries, it is known as Nintendo Entertainment System.
1998 – iMac G3, a computer
This trendsetting machine was not only known for its candy colors – it was the first computer to include USB ports as standard connection, and the first to remove a slot for what was then the standard removable media – the 3 and a half inch floppy drive.
1998 – Yahoo! Messenger, an instant messaging client
Remember how you and your boyfriend/girlfriend started? Yahoo Messenger! Oh kidding. But this allowed Yahoo users to communicate to friends by sending messages and files, calling and creating chat groups in the desktop version.
1998 – Dance Dance Revolution (DDR), a arcade game
DDR is the first ever rhythm and dance video game. Its arcade cabinet came with a platform with four arrows. Players take the stage and step on the arrows depending on what the screen shows.
1999 – Nokia 3210, a mobile phone
Your touch screen phones and tabs won’t be in your hand without the idea of making this Nokie 3210. It was the phone of choice when texting took off in the Philippines and the first cell phone from Nokia to have an internal antenna.
2002 – Friendster, a social networking site
Before having Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and all, what do you have? Friendster! Well, this website introduced the idea of making friends online by adding them through their online profiles and the idea of sharing photos and posts.
2004 – Nintendo DS, a portable gaming console
It’s not the best-selling handheld console for nothing. This clamshell device had two LCD screens, one of which was a touch screen, and a stylus to make gaming more fun.
2007 – Amazon Kindle, an E-book reader
For the book lovers out there, the Kindle made your life easier because browsing, shopping and reading a book here is much more convenient. The reading experience is similar to that of an actual book.
