Top Ten Songs: Himig Handog P-pop Love Songs

Top Ten Songs Himig Handog P-pop Love Songs

Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat, Kahit Na, Anong Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa, Tamang Panahon, Scared to Death – these songs had gone really far, but can you still remember how these OPM songs started? We first heard these songs in the last year’s Himig Handog P-Pop love songs, right? But that was last year because this year, Himig Handog again grants you songs that will invade your ipods and playlists.

Himig Handog is a multimedia songwriting and music video competition in the Philippines operated by ABS-CBN. We are very fortunate to have this competition because it does not just create beautiful music that is set to be the next OPM classic, but also, it discovers new unpopular yet talented Filipino composers.

Anyways, are you ready to listen to this year’s Himig Handog P-pop love songs entries? Sit back, relax, and get ready to feel the joys and pains of love. (The songs are listed according to my top ten song choice)

1. Mahal Ko O Mahal Ako

Interpreted by KZ Tandingan

Words and Music by Edwin Marollano

Ask yourself. Who will you choose between the two people in your life, your dream person that you love or the person who knocks in your heart? Most people can’t answer the question. Why? Nalilitong litong litong lito! This is what this song is telling you. We can feel the ‘hugot’ thing from the composer and the also the singer, KZ Tandingan.

2. Mahal Kita Pero

Interpreted by Janella Salvador

Words and Music by Melchora Mabilog

What people don’t want here is that the lyrics are repeating. I mean, all we can hear the most is “Mahal kita pero”. But still the message is clear and some teens, nowadays, can relate to this song and its music video. I chose this as my second in my top ten songs because of the singer. I really love Janella Salvador! Now that she had succeeded her acting career, she is also starting to enhance her singing career. With this, her first new song, we discovered that she has a nice voice just like her mother.

3. Simpleng Tulad Mo

Interpreted by Daniel Padilla

Words and Music by MJ Magno

Simple song but made a blast in Himig Handog! There’s no doubt that this song will gain the votes of teens because of its singer, who gives kilig factor for all the girls out there. Aside from the Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo is also in the music video, which made the Kathniel fans love the song even more.

4. Akin Ka Na Lang

Interpreted by Morissette Amon

Words and Music by Francis Kiko Salazar

Morissette Amon never fails to impress her fans. Her high voice in the song is much appreciated because she really did it very well. Her fans said that she can be compared to her coach Sarah in terms of voice and looks. In the music video that has the special participation of Fourth Solomon, the viewers can really feel the scene of rejection.

5. Pumapag-ibig

Interpreted by Marion Aunor

Words and Music by Jungee Marcelo

After joining the last year’s Himig Handog as composer and interpreter for the song “If You Ever Change Your Mind”, Marion Aunor is again here as an interpreter for the song “Pumapag-ibig”. My claps are for her because with her relaxing voice, she reaches the higher level. The music video and song is really cute. What can I say? Hashtag, in love, pumapag-ibig!

6. Walang Basagan Ng Trip

Interpreted by Jugs and Teddy

Words and Music by Eric De Leon

Okay. Time out for the those ‘hugot’ songs and give way for these Showtime hosts, Jugs and Teddy, singing “Walang Basagan ng Trip” You may say that their song is out of the theme of Himig Handog, which is love, well, walang basagan ng trip, because the theme doesn’t just revolve around romantic love. It can be love for freedom, love for oneself and love to be happy and free. And this is the message that this song delivers you.

7. Everything Takes Time

Words, Music and interpreted by Hazel Faith Dela Cruz

People ask, “Who is this celebrity?” She’s Hazel Faith Dela Cruz, the one who stands for their song and who has courage to interpret what they compose. Anyways, I can say that this is a great song and the concept was great, too. But as we I watch the music video, I think, the editing needs work and the talents need practice.

8. Pare Mahal o Raw Ako

Interpreted by Michael Pangilinan

Words and Music by Joven Tan

As I first heard this song, I was looking forward for the pop or fast part of it because I thought, this was some kind of comedy. I don’t know. Is it because of the combination of the title, “Pare Mahal Mo Raw Ako” and the singer, who is a boy? I found out that this is a dramatic song, but this makes me laugh because of the awkward matter of the gay-themed music video.

9. Hindi Wala

Interpreted by Juris

Words and Music by Nica del Rosario

My award for the “Best Music Video” goes to (drum roll) “Hindi Wala”, which has a music video made by De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde. It’s not that I am biased but I really appreciate the shots and angles. The Himig Handog 2013 “Hanggang Wakas” performer, Juris, proves that she really has this inspiring voice.

10. Hanggang Kailan

Interpreted by Angeline Quinto

Words and Music by Joel Mendoza

Kudos to the composer and interpreter for this awesome song! My top ten song really touches my heart and soul. I guess, Angeline Quinto and Joel Mendoza were undergoing a serious event in their lives while making this song. This is why when your hear it, tears come to burst.
