violations agains the first commandment

“I am the Lord your God. You shall not have other gods besides me”

– Exodus 20:2-3

It means that the Lord God the Holy Trinity is the only God whom we must adore and serve. He must be above all our other interests and values. Therefore, God must be the highest priority in our life, the center of our lives.

The following are some violations on the First Commandment.

Idolatry

“‘Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the Lord your God.” – Leviticus 26:1

Idolatry is the substitution of someone or something else for God like when people seek ways to manipulate events for their self-interest like fortune-telling, superstitious beliefs, magic, sorcery, witchcraft, Satanism, astrology and more and when people engage in unknown powers that fascinate the mind, like strange spirits and ghosts. All these things might lead us to lose our focus on Jesus Christ.

Sacrilege

“You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?” – Romans 2:22
