Wonder Woman Movie Review

Wonder Woman tells the story of an Amazon princess who finds her blissful life on an island occupied only by female warriors. Diana’s mother, Queen Hippolyta, forbids her from training as a warrior but due to Diana’s desire to learn, General Antiope trained her in secret. That’s the time when she discovered her superpowers. After rescuing Captain Steve Trevor, the pilot of the plane that crashed nearby, she learns that World War I is engulfing the planet. With this, she vowed to use her superpowers to restore peace. Believing that Ares is responsible for the war, Diana arms herself with the ceremonial sword and leaves the island with Steve to find and destroy Ares.

Although I’ve already heard this plot before, I’m still amazed on how the story goes like I only knew Wonder Woman’s story when I watched its 2017 film. Moreover, the little tweaks are just flawless addition to the plot. Aside from showing the heroism and bravery of this female superhero, how she started and all, the most talked-about flick today also says something about intimate love by adding Steve into the picture. Likewise, the visuals incredible. Either in three-dimensional or two-dimensional, the film seems real because of the action movie effects.

Let’s talk about Gal Gadot. I’m excited to talk about her because I admire her so much. Imagine! She was five-months pregnant when she was filming Wonder Woman yet she managed to look elegant and powerful at the same time. How could you not applaud this girl? She’s perfect for the role as if she was born for it. I can already see that when I watched her performance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Since then, I followed her which drove me more into watching Wonder Woman. Although the first part of the movie was stuck to the superhero’s origin, it was never dull because of her and of course, because of the actors who played Captain Steve Trevor, General Antiope and Queen Hippolyta.

The ending doesn’t only show a good fight between Diana and Ares but it also portray a good message to the audience. Since Ares is the God of War, the only things that could beat him are love and peace. When Ares was almost winning the battle, he tried to persuade Diana to help him destroy humankind by convincing her to kill Maru, one of the humans Ares used to start the war on Earth. However, Diana saw in the eyes of Maru the message saying that even though how bad a human is, there is still something good inside her. This built the love of Diana to people and rage towards Ares which destroyed him and ended the war on Earth.

Having this message, I find the movie, Wonder Woman so relevant in today’s world. As we can see, the Marawi siege and bombings in different areas are frequent in the headlines of Philippine news. Globally, there is the Manchester attack, war in Syria and Iraq, Bangkok bombing and terrorism around the globe. I’m hoping that Ares of the real world would stop spreading hatred to the world. I hope that humans won’t let him invade our beautiful land. I hope that they let peace and love come into their hearts instead of war and hatred. And I hope that they watch Wonder Woman so they will realize how good the world is without war.
