How I Make Australian Cheese Slaw

My mom bought and gave me a huge cheese collection when she was on her trip from the Netherlands. She came home with all sorts of cheeses from young and aged Gouda, soft-ripened cheese like Brie or Camembert, smoked cheese, spreads to a beautiful goat cheese and Gruyère.

After posting plenty of cheese dishes recipes on the blog and eating way more cheese than I care to admit, I started running out of ideas. So I did what any curious foodie would do. I turned to the internet. That’s when I stumbled upon something from Australia called Cheese Slaw. It looks like coleslaw, but it’s mostly made of shredded cheese! How did I not know this existed when I was in Sydney? It’s a missed opportunity, I guess.

Anyway, the traditional version uses Swiss cheese. Luckily, I still had some Gruyère left in the stash. So here we are, trying out a cheesy Aussie salad that’s simple, quirky and totally lovable.

1. Prepare all the ingredients needed.

  • Gruyere Cheese
  • Carrots
  • Leeks
  • Jalapeno or Bell Pepper
  • Mayonnaise

2. Shred the cheese.

3. Shred the carrots.

4. Slice the bell peppers.

5. Cut the leeks.

6. Mix them altogether and dress with mayonnaise.

7. Your Cheese Slaw is now done and ready to be served.
