Al Fresco Dining At Casa De Mina

Once a humble home owned by carefree and friendly habitants, this new restaurant in the small town of Pola is making noise, reaching every foodies in Mindoro. Casa de Mina is an al-fresco restaurant built out of passion. The owners simply loves cooking and chilling so they opened and turned their beautiful backyard into a food house to share their haven.

I’ve been to Casa de Mina before it became a restaurant. With a medium-sized hut surrounded by lots of flora, the place was already designed pleasingly. Just sit in one of their swings, feel the cool countryside breeze and you’ll have the relaxation you’re wishing.

Now, it’s better because they have food. Casa de Mina offers tried-and-tested family recipes. Since the restaurant is nestled between farm and sea, we’re sure to get the freshest ingredients.

The Tendilicious Crispy Pata is sure to be the specialty of Casa De Mina. It has solid sound when flicked, which indicates the true crispiness of the pig knuckles skin. After peeling the skin off, we were surprised with bountiful amount of soft and savory meat. You’ll definitely leave the table with only the bones left. But if it’s us, we would still take out the bones for our dogs. The accompanying vinegar is also yummy. This combo makes us order for an extra rice.

buy soma prescription Korean Fishcake | Palagatik Carabeef

Casa De Mina’s original Korean Fishcake is supposed to be fiery hot but we requested for mild spiciness and they succeeded on giving us one. With this version, they were able to display the sweetness in the sauce. It’s good as an appetizer or as a dish with rice. The Palagatik Carabeef is the family’s favorite. We always have it on our table whenever we visit the restaurant. The flavor is just different from cow’s meat, which makes it addicting. They were able to execute the flavor of carabao well through Palagatik.

Crispy Kangkong

Casa de Mina’s Crispy Kangkong is absolutely a good appetizer while waiting for the other orders. I’m amazed at how crispy this leafy vegetable is! They don’t go soggy at all. It has a thin batter coat, which is quite similar to the one we use in tempura, so it’s totally scrumptious. I enjoy munching it with their vinegar that is full of sliced onion. After it was served, the Crispy Kangkong was literally gone in seconds. That’s how good it was!

Pancit Bihon | Chopsuey

At first sight, you would assume that the Chopsuey and Pancit Bihon would just have the same taste since they almost have the same sauce and ingredients, except for the noodles. This is what other restaurants do. But since they put effort and passion to what they do, they proved me wrong. They’re cooked differently. Chopsuey has a sweet sauce. The vegetables taste like home. On the other hand, the Pancit Bihon was kinda bland but it’s still delish. The amount of noodles is proportional to toppings.

Buttered Vegetables

Since they’re cooking the dishes outdoor near us, we can see how our food were cooked. With this, we weren’t just guaranteed of the food’s sanitation but, also, we were entertained while waiting. Their serving of Buttered Vegetables is so huge that it can be a main dish already. Although they use pre-mix vegetables, they were able to exhibit the separate flavors of corn, green peas and carrots, which were blended together incredibly by butter and onion relish.

Salted Egg Shrimp

The Salted Egg Shrimp isn’t that bad. Although it isn’t the bubbling salted egg yolk we are expecting, the sauce still has the appetizing flavor of salted egg, which is mixed with the aligue of shrimp. I just wish it has more salted egg sauce so it would properly wrap around the shrimp. The shrimp has fresh sea taste. They may vary in size but each piece are fat so it’s still worth it. Since they already have salted egg in the menu, I suggest they can also add chicken wings or potato chips with the same flavor.

Camaron with Mango Sauce

Seafood in Pola is bigger and fresher so we took the chance to order another shrimp dish. After all, the strange addition of mango sauce attracts my palate. I like this shrimp dish better. Aside from the fact that we won’t be peeling shrimps anymore, I can truly taste the natural flavors of shrimp. Surprisingly, it went well with the sweet mango sauce. The batter may be thick but the flesh were big as well.

Sweet and Sour Alimango

One thing I like about Casa de Mina is the fact that customers can request dishes that is out of their menu. We requested these red crabs for our dinner and they gave it justice. Just look how big those claws are. Each crabs are filled with soft and yummy meat and orange fats. It definitely suits the sweet and sour sauce. For requested dishes, guests must inform the restaurant days before the visit so they have time to check the availability of the ingredients.
