But since we can’t find time to watch it together, we watched it individually. He was the first to watch it and he was such a spoiler. He couldn’t help but compare it to our own love story since he is also a drummer like Gio and I am also a blogger like Cali. As he was watching, he was talking to me through phone and was telling me that he’s already crying and something like that. He’s never been like that before! Gahh! He was tempting me to watch!

Gio, played by Enrique Gil, tries to prove to his ex-girlfriend, Cali, that he is a changed man. However, Liza Soberano here as Cali has trust issues with guys because all guys she knows are cheaters, including her father. My Ex and Whys shows how Cali learned to forgive and to love again.

And just like my boyfriend, I cried. I cried from the beginning until the very end. I’m so affected because just like what my boyfriend said, it’s like our story turned into movie. Everyone can actually relate to it not only because it shows a common conflict but also because it’s timely for millennials as it features bloggers, Twitter users, online bashers, bitter exes, cheaters and hugot lines. Aside from these, the flick has a touch of comedy which somehow made the movie quite light. Moreover, it does not only tells a story but it also gives lessons about love and forgiveness.

However, I just have to critique something. There are scenes that are unrealistic just like how Lee forgave Cali. Cali ruined Lee’s relationship with his fiancee and he forgave Cali as simple as that? When Lee’s fiancee was missing, Lee should be grieving. The reason is obvious. But in the movie, Lee seemed happy. I know Ryan Bang’s character is to bring joy to the film but they must also take those kinds of scenes into consideration, fit the screenplay to the story and organize their plot. It seems that they rushed the story and that they only made it for the sake of the movie itself.

For the actors, I commend all of them for a job well done. We can’t deny that there is a chemistry between Liza and Enrique and they let it spark whenever they have scenes together and whenever they throw lines on Twitter. But sometimes, there are parts that makes me cringe. I don’t know if that’s because of their acting performance or because the story seemed rushed. Gio’s father and brothers are perfect for their roles as well as Karen Reyes for being Cali’s supportive best friend. Ara Mina’s performance as Cali’s mother was just fine though.

Lastly, I have to applaud My Ex and Whys for having a creative title.
