http___www.bigleaguekickball.com_category_press_ SOMA OVERNIGHT COD As we were going to Calatagan for our weekend getaway, we decided to stop by Taal, Basilica of St. Martin de Tours and Galleria Taal specifically, for our side trips. It’s indeed a knowledgeable experience, especially when these two spots features a long history behind them.

The former residence of Barrion-Ilagan is now the home of Mr. Manny Inumerable’s collection of antique and vintage cameras. He owns cameras from the 1800s rare daguerreotypes to modern cameras of Leica, Nikon, and Canon.

Candida is the third child of the house’s first owners, Domingo and Maria Ilagan. Candida and his husband, Antonino Barrion, together with their three children, chose to stay at her parents’ house after World War 2. The Barrion-Ilagan residence was once abandoned after Candida’s death. Thanks to her grandson, Nellie’s son, Mr. Manny Inumerable, for restoring, reliving and opening the house to public as a place of learning and discovery! This tall family tree already says a lot on how old this lodge is.

We were able to have a peek through the lens of Century Studio Camera and its capture looks like a painting. It’s like it’s depicting the light, colors and shades of what its lens see. It’s beautiful, especially when you think that early 1900s have this. I just can’t imagine how the people before carry a camera as big as this.

There are over a hundred cameras displayed from oldest to newest, from biggest to handiest, from mechanical to digital. Most of them are true collectibles since some are rare due to age and some are sold as limited edition products.

Only 1000 pieces of 24k gold plated camera were and one of them is right in front of my eyes. It is created by Nikon in 1984 in celebration of their victory as European camera of the year. Beside it is Nikon FM2 “Dragon Kit”, another special edition product of Nikon. The 2000 pieces were made to commemorate the new millennium year, 2000, which is a Chinese year of the Dragon.

Instead of an album of printed pictures or a folder of soft copies shared via email or bluetooth, a box of negative films with a stereoscope was given to Candida’s daughter, Charito, during her wedding. How precious! Scanning through these wedding images reminded me of my View-Master toy when I was young. I was surprised to see the aged photos in three dimensions.

Apart from the stories of these cameras, our tour guide, Ms. Rose, also talked about the past and present events that happened in their town. Displayed in the walls of the gallery are the old photos of Basilica of St. Martin de Tours. In these snapshots, we can see how the largest Catholic church in Asia developed into how it is today.

Ms. Rose also told us their experience during the 2020 Taal Volcano eruption. It was sad that they weren’t able to bring the strays in the evacuation area with them so when they came back after two weeks, the dogs looked pitiful and hungry. They fed the dogs with the food they brought. This one Aspin kept coming back to Taal Galleria so they decided to provide shelter. Guests will easily see him in the cafe.

I’m talking about this ancestral-looking yet classy cafe situated at the ground floor of the gallery. You know how I love coffee shops so my heart leaped out of excitement when I saw this. Having this cafe is a great idea as some guests will choose to take a quick munch after the wandering around the exhibit. Plus, it is an air-conditioned room so it’s homey and cozy.

I heard that tablea in Taal is a must-try so I set aside my love for coffee this time to order Galleria Taal’s hot chocolate. I appreciate that it’s not too sweet yet not too bitter. It’s just right for my palate. We paired it with the their local fried suman, which is also delish, especially when it is dipped in the accompanying chocolate sauce.

We met this photographer at the Taal Galleria and he shared his thoughts while he explored the museum. He said that it feels like he was in heaven. Ordinary people like us couldn’t contain our amazement. How much more to photographers and camera enthusiasts, right?

Taal Galleria is truly a gift for millennials and for the next generations to come. Through this museum, we were able to learn on how cameras evolved through the centuries and how photos were soulfully taken during the earlier times unlike today when we can take countless snaps immediately.
