Spotify’s Best Songs For Travel 2023

It’s hard to think of 2023 in music and not to mention the success of movie soundtrack of Barbie, Taylor Swift’s Era’s Tour, the comeback of our favorite long-time singers and launch of the new talented artists.

One more thing to celebrate this year is the rise of OPM. Hearing the Filipino songs during the last decade, I thought it would be hopeless for OPM to dominate in the country. But who would have thought that, this year, Filipino represents well on each genre. Hence, half of my list is locally produced, which I’m truly proud of.

Since we’ve been to numerous destinations this year, we’ve also listened to a lot of great songs this year. So here goes my list of top ten songs I play in Spotify while traveling for 2023!

Everybody is waiting for Miley Cyrus’ comeback and here it is! She just gave a theme song for all the independent women out there who don’t need a man to slay. It is a powerful anthem for self-love and self-acceptance. It just hits different, especially for the fact that we all know what Miley Cyrus has gone through her life. But instead of being melancholic, she gave us a song with catchy and upbeat melody and rhythm.

Just a quick trivia! My husband always use this song whenever he posts a Facebook story of is or me. It’s kinda funny but I can’t deny that it’s sweet. This song is a reminder of how magical love feels like. Despite all the hurt we’ve been through, we will always find ourselves looking for that feeling of loving someone and receiving the love back. I can’t help but be emotional with the song, especially with this sentimental melody.

8. Raining in Manila – Lola Amour

As a musician, my husband has a good ear for music. I remember when we were listening to this song in our car when it wasn’t famous yet and he told me, “Sisikat ‘tong kantang ‘to.” He was right. It’s vibe hits different. It has a retro hint that lightens ones mood. It’s nostalgic and aesthetic. It’s something that you want to sing-along during long rides or if you simply want to chill with friends.

7. If We Ever Broke Up – Mae Stephens

I’m not familiar with Mae Stephens so there is no way that I’ll discover her songs. But thanks to TikTok! I found a gem from her! I had this on repeat on TikTik and unconsciously memorized the lyrics and even the steps. I just really find this song cute. Just do not focus on the lyrics because you’ll find it otherwise because it’s all about the singer’s imagination on her break-up revenge.

6. Lagabog – Skusta Clee

I’m not a fan of Skusta Clee. To be honest, I hate him because we all know how much of a asshole he is. But I can’t deny that he is talented and has written good songs that grace the OPM hit chart. Lagabog is one of them. I didn’t like Lagabog because it’s trending and the part “Oh, kalma, baby, kalma” always rings in TikTok. It is actually the bridge and chorus that struck me, of course, without minding the lyrics. It has the beat that attracts dancers.

5. Pantropiko – Bini

After numerous attempts of our entertainment industry to make a group that would resemble Korean pop groups, ABS-CBN’s Star Magic has finally found the right members and formed Bini. I’m shy to admit it but I am interested to this group now. Each members are equally beautiful, talented and jolly. When it comes to their latest song, “Pantropiko”, it’s catchy, not to mention how lively the choreography of the dance is.

4. Ere – Juan Carlos

Ere won’t be Spotify’s biggest single-day stream for nothing. Juan Carlos didn’t just sing the song. He conveyed its emotion naturally. You can truly sense his storytelling through the melody. He’s the type of musician who remains authentic, not needing flashy performances to stand out. His songwriting prowess and masterful command of his voice underscore the depth of the song. Plus, he’s an exceptional lyricist.

3. Water – Tyla

There was a time in this year that the song and the dance moves couldn’t get out of my mind. It was really a hit in TikTok that almost every influencer I follow took this twerking dance challenge. I couldn’t blame them because the song was indeed catchy. I wish I have the talent to dance so I could also slay. Just kidding! Anyway, I’m happy to see South African artist shined and shook the whole world.

2. Dance the Night – Dua Lipa

After watching Barbie, the movie, this song superbly describes the start of Barbie’s existential crisis. The lyrics are literally describing the turmoil bubbling inside of her, while still being a total summer bop. The dance party scene had me break into applause as soon as the song finished. And they got the right singer to perform the iconic song. Dua Lipa has that sound that makes people want to move and groove.

1. Vampire – Olivia Rodrigo

This is my jam! Olivia Rodrigo don’t fail us to give a good music every time she releases an album. After Sour, I thought that the standards were too high to level. But through “Vampire”, she was able to showcase her singing prowess again that is filled with power and emotions. The way the song transitioned from slow piano ballad to a pop rock song was indeed amazing. Olivia Rodrigo is ready to win some Grammy’s again.
