Fall Under Coron’s Spell At TAG Resort

While booking for a night stay for our three-day tour in Coron, I considered the one with affordable rates but still looks fancy. TAG Resort was the best choice for our preferences.

Set against the backdrop of the Philippines’ enchanted paradise, TAG Resort is the newest hotel and resort in Coron. In spite of being located in a world-renowned tourist destination, TAG Resort is a unique attraction on its own.

We are sure that it opened recently because every people we met in the island, from our friend doctor who was assigned in Coron, to tricycle drivers, to our tour guides and to souvenir store vendors, would say, “Ah! Yan ‘yung bagong hotel.” whenever they ask for our accommodation details.

Being new became an advantage for TAG Resort because they were able to tickle the contemporary taste of their guests by using playful tropical colors and quirky designs. The lobby and lounge area is different from a typical hotel vibe. It’s more fitting to the theme of Coron. Nevertheless, the resort looks carefree so relaxation is guaranteed.

TAG Resort prides itself for having a stylishly designed and neatly landscaped pool area. I actually prefer minimalist places but I must say that I’m impressed with the choice of amenities they put in the swimming pool. There are patios, swings and couchers immersed in pool. All are nature-colored so it’s refreshing to look at and Instagram-worthy to take photos even in a gloomy weather.

We just had a short dip in their pool since it was raining non-stop when we visited TAG Resort. But during that small swimming time, I appreciate the cleanliness of the pool. Even though we were just passing, we can really see that the maintenance staff are very attentive. The water was just cold but perhaps, it was affected by the climate.

We opted for the least expensive room in Tag Resort since we’ll be spending most of our times in Coron outdoors. But despite of being the simplest, the Tahanan room provided comfort, space and elegance. If only we’re not here for the tour, I would tuck myself  in its soft bed all day. The suite is well-ventilated and well-equipped with necessities. There’s coffee machine, too!

I was smitten with the bathroom! It’s spacious that I could do my morning rituals. I like everything on the sink table, especially the stone basin and the complementary vanity stuff. However, there was just a problem with the flooring because it was all flat. The bedroom and the sink area weren’t elevated to the shower area so it creates a puddle that flows up to the bedroom.

And of course, as an advocate of environment and sustainability, I wouldn’t miss mentioning and praising TAG Resort’s efforts and little ways to reduce the utilization of single-use products. I love the idea of using Gin Kwatro Kantos bottles for the shampoos and gels. They even give free coffee for those who won’t change their bath towels every green day. Cool, right?

If that is TAG Resort’s standard room, I guess, you are wondering what it feels to stay in their villas. Magical is one word to describe it. Tadhana Villa will let you experience a snip of a luxury island life. Its bed faces the room’s balcony that has direct access to a separate pool, which is just as wonderful as the main pool. The Island Pool has its own chaise lounges and hammocks, too.

The resort makes sure that you enjoy every gastronomic moment when you come for a visit as it houses three dining spots. This is TAGay Poolside Bar. It offers quality wines, beer, craft cocktails and excellent bar chows. There is also a cafe, the Taza Cafe, but it was closed when we arrived. Their flagship restaurant is the BunTAG Restaurant, an all-day dining with a mouthwatering menu of Filipino cuisine served in a casual family atmosphere.

Breakfast was served plated at BunTAG Restaurant but we were told that soon after, they’ll switch to buffet style. They recommended the Lamayo since this marinated fish is Coron’s specialty. It’s like their version of daing but I like that it’s generous in flesh and it’s not too salty. The  Chicken Tocino seems like the one from commercialized frozen packs. Taste is good, for sure, but I’ll appreciate it more if they marinate their own Tocino. On the other hand, I know that Continental Breakfast is a light morning meal but I’m just used to a packed Continental Breakfast so I was surprised to just see bread and spreads on my plate.

Nonetheless, it was great spending our mornings in BunTAG Restaurant. But I’m much more thankful that we spent our nights in this hotel. The hospitality is top-notch yet the staff aren’t intimidating. I can’t find more words to describe how beautiful the place is. I think I’ll just let the photos speak for the resort. Overall, it was indeed a rewarding and memorable experience. It may sound cliche but TAG Resort is a must-stay hotel in Coron.
