Best Of Eng Bee Tin

It’s the 388th day of quarantine period in our region and in today’s time, I’m taking advantage of online shops like Lazada and Shopee to buy products from Manila-based shops since I’m staying in our province during lockdown. I’m so happy to find Eng Bee Tin’s account on the said online shop so I immediately got myself a package.

For those who didn’t know, there’s a little Chinese blood in me and my family lived in Binondo for years before residing into our current house in Metro Manila so Eng Bee Tin, as well as Mr. Ube Rice and Noodle House, is close to my heart even before I started blogging. I also wish to order Mr. Ube’s products and other frozen products of Eng Bee Tin but they’re not available for shipping outside Metro Manila.

So for the meantime, let’s have these pastries of Eng Bee Tin.

Mochipia

Mochipia stands for the combination of mochi and hopia! For the Ube Macapuno, The main hopia filling is ube then the mochi part is coconut-flavored. It’s like real purple yam jam. I like that it’s thick. The mochi has the perfect texture. You won’t notice it by the eye. You will just realize that it is in your mouth.

Hopia Hapon

This whole thing is like a mini and thinner version of mooncake. It’s so cute that I enjoyed eating it especially that I’m fond of mooncakes. I discovered that Hopia Hapon’s difference to the usual Hopia is the bread wrapper. This is thick and the usual is flaky. The bean paste filling is sweet, which complements the cake dough-type wrap.

Black Mongo Mooncake

The black mongo filling was sweet and compact. I can say that they’re really expert on these pastries. I’m so happy with the two egg yolks inside as they gave the mooncake a salty touch. They have a lot more exciting flavors especially during Mooncake Festival. I would like to try the unique ones like Durian, Choco Banana and Mango Jam.

Tikoy

We always buy the original-flavored Tikoy. It was just recently when I bought Sweet Corn flavor to feed my curiousity. I can sense its difference to the original. It’s much sweeter. Although we couldn’t taste the Sweet Corn flavor, I can’t deny that this is delish. The sweetness goes well with egg and spring roll wrapper.

Golden Pork Floss Hopia

Pork Floss Hopia is now a thing in Eng Bee Tin. We were surprised! My mom knows we liked any breads with meat floss. This feels like Bread Talk’s Floss Bun compacted and transformed into a hopia, which, I think, is an amazing idea. It has a great deal of floss inside that complements the traditional hopia filling.

Pineapple Cake

The Golden Pork Floss Hopia and Pineapple Cake were released at the same time but they are completely different. This bread part is powdered, compact and bland. I’m not a fan of pastries like this. It’s a good thing that it has generous amount of pineapple inside, which is not too sweet and not too sour.

Tikoy Roll

This is actually a good idea especially for those people who are lazy to prepare Tikoy. It isn’t just a simple Tikoy since it also has mung beans filling. Customer’s pick are mostly ube and plain, which are just covered with powder. But my favorites are peanut and sesame since these Tikoy Rolls are covered with crispiness.

Mochi

I intentionally opted for rare kinds of Mochi and I had Orange Chocolate, Chocolate and Banana. Since they are using extracts as fruit flavoring, the orange in Orange Chocolate flavor and banana in Banana flavor wasn’t intense. The Banana Mochi was just fragrant and the Orange Chocolate Mochi only has an aftertaste. The Chocolate was good though.

Tart

The tart is kinda dry. I’m loving the flavors so I truly recommend having the assorted tart in one box. There’s Macapuno, Langka, Caramel and Peanut. It’s texture is fat from what I am expecting but I must say it’s delish. However, it’s not something that we can consume in one sitting because it easily sweetens one’s palate.

Piaya

I already had high hopes with Eng Bee Tin due to their delish products. So when it comes to Piaya, I was deeply disappointed, maybe, because I tasted better like BongBong’s Piaya. My bias are thin and crunchy Piayas with flavorful filling. Sadly, Eng Bee Tin’s Piaya doesn’t have these features.
