Competing Brands From The Same Company

It’s the 55th day of quarantine period in our region and there’s still no going out. Since we’re stuck in our houses, I can only provide and share some trivias about food and industry. I gathered information about some food companies that own competing brands and I thought that this topic might interests you as much as it amazes me. Perhaps, you’ll be as surprised as I am when you discovered that your favorite product and its rival came from the same company. Let’s get to know about these brands and these companies, shall we?

Please note that I wasn’t able to but the featured products due to the lack of supplies in groceries so I just drew them. After all, I saved my money from shopping again. Anyway, let’s get started.

Milo and Ovaltine

When I was young, it was the era of Ovaltine in our country. I even pour it over rice and eat it for breakfast before. But as I grew older, Milo was gaining prominence, dominating the chocolate and malt powder sector. But surprise! It was always Nestle that tops the chart. While Nestle manufactures Milo, the company also acquire Ovaltine in United States.

Being the top food and beverage company worldwide, it’s possible for Nestle to have two entries in this list. Well, aside from chocolate powder, Nestle also has two competing milk brands that is known in our country – Nido and Bearbrand. I’m not a fan of both brands because I prefer Fresh Milk, which happens to be a Nestle product again.

One is an ice cream cone. The other is an ice cream bar. Although they are different in form, these two ice creams manufactured by Selecta are often compared. I actually don’t understand why because they are completely different. Magnum has fancier branding while Cornetto is the basic option.

I’m not a fan of bubble gums. But I’ll be lying if I tell you that I’m not familiar with Doublemint and Juicy Fruit. We always see these two, tempting customers, at the counter of groceries and convenience stores. But no matter what you pick, you’ll be buying a product of Wrigley’s. Orbit, Big Red, Hubba Bubba and 5 Gum are also from Wrigley’s.

buy soma online Mountain Dew and 7up

Think of a business rivalry and PepsiCo and Coca Cola will surely be the first thing on your mind. Aside from Pepsi and Coke, they also compete in the lemon lime soda section, having 7up and Sprite respectively. But recently, PepsiCo launched another drink of this kind called Mountain Dew. Now, it’s a battle of three brands.

online soma fedex next day delivery Wilkins and Viva

In the Philippines, for bottled mineral water, it’s actually a battle between Coca Cola’s Wilkins and Asia Brewery’s Absolute. But we are also familiar with Coca Cola’s Viva as it is just a few steps behind the two. After all, I usually pick Viva when buying a mineral water because I’m looking for a more affordable one. Wilkins is like the deluxe one.

When I started cooking, I only know and use McCormick Mustard because it’s the common mustard in Philippine market. Upon searching for more brands of mustard, I learned about French’s, which is a popular brand not just here, but also in foreign countries. Digging up more details about French’s, it led me back to McCormick & Company, its parent organization.

Pedigree and Iams

Aside from the food for humans, we also have food for our pets here. We have eight dogs in the family so just like any other fur mommies, I also stumble into the brands Pedigree and Iams in groceries. Little did I know that these two familiar dog food brands are both from Mars. Whiskas, which is a famous cat food brand, is also from the said company.

Century Tuna and 555 Tuna

I was reading a review about canned tunas and they were taste testing Century Tuna, San Marino and 555. I was surprised when they mention that 555 and Century Tuna are both from the Philippine company, Century Pacific Food. But I never bought 555. I’m always the Century Tuna or San Marino girl, depending on the pairing.

Datu Puti and Silver Swan

We also got competing brands from the Philippine food company, NutriAsia. When it comes to vinegar and soy sauce, I grew up being loyal to Datu Puti. I always choose it over Silver Swan. But knowing that these two brands are from NutriAsia, I don’t think our vote counts because no matter what we choose, all votes go to the same company.

Outside the food industry, some of the competing brands from the same company are Tide and Ariel, Nike and Converse, Adidas and Reebok and Ray-Ban and Oakley.
