So we canceled our booking in Azure for my birthday and ended up booking another one in Dusit Thani for the end of the term. We got a more expensive hotel but I think we also got one with higher quality. I saw Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, together with the other Miss Universe 2017, spent their nights in the Philippines in Dusit Thani. I saw their selfies with the hotel lobby and photos with the giant Christmas tree. I witnessed their dinner in one of Dusit Thani’s restaurant and spotted Demi making her halo halo. Now, let me somehow experience being a Miss Universe for a night by staying in the same hotel where these beauty queens stayed.

The moment we entered the hotel, we were immediately amused by Dusit Thani’s Christmas decorations, especially their giant Christmas tree. The place seems happy and just the sight of this brings smile to the guests. I wonder what their lobby looks like on a normal day. I presume that it would be something simple yet elegant with their Thai theme as I can see a Thai vibe into it.

My smile didn’t fade as the staff accomodated us inside welcomingly. From the guards to housekeepers – they are all friendly! In the lobby, as I entered my DLSU email address upon checking in, the desk clerk told us that she was also from DLSU and entertained us with stories about Dusit Thani and Miss Universe visit. The porter was so polite to offer himself to take a photo of us with the room.

We booked for a deluxe room for this night. The amenities include two queen-sized beds and other essential room facilities. They provide internet that we can access even we are outside the room. The place is wide and spacious which makes it relaxing and stress-free. Well, we wish to have a relaxing stay but the workers outside our room prevent us to do that. They are so noisy especially at night.

The bathroom was almost what I’ve dreamed for – shower with high pressure, clean bath amenities, big towels and bathrobes, generous amount of complimentaries and such. But as I was saying, it was just almost what I’ve dreamed for because first, there’s no bidet and second, the heater in our room wasn’t functioning. Sadly, I end up taking a bath at home.

I actually do not like the view from our window since it’s mostly covered with roof. But I saw some kind of garden on the ground. So we went down and looked for the door that will lead us there. It was closed and we wonder why. Why do they hide such beauty from guests? We found a way that will bring us inside for a short stroll. I was curious so we peeked in and I discovered that it is part of Umu.

Umu is a Japanese Restaurant in Dusit Thani. On the other side of the hotel is a restaurant called Benjarong which offers Thai Cuisine. Unlike Umu, we got to dine in Benjarong during our stay. Honestly, it’s not easy to find Thai food and vibe this authentic in Manila so we’re lucky. The flavors are well-balanced with varying layers and textures and the ambiance shows the theme of the cuisine they serve.

And here goes their flagship restaurant. The Pantry is known for their farm-to-fork concept which means that they serve only organic and locally-sourced ingredients turned into Indian, Italian, Filipino and Asian cuisine. We had our buffet breakfast here but I find the selection limited. I think it’s best to eat here at dinner where there are varieties of seafood, desserts, snacks and The Pantry’s signature lechon.

Late afternoon is the perfect time to unwind in their pool area as it is not too sunny yet not too windy in the city. We didn’t feel like swimming but we feel like sitting in this lounger while admiring the interior. The area may not be spacious and the pool itself may be small but the design is undeniably lovely. I just love the sun deck that matches the motif of Dusit Thani swimming pool area.

The pantry also manages the bar by the pool. My mom and I decided to buy something to drink while enjoying the time of our lives here. We ordered Princess Sarita and Morning Glory, which are different non-alcoholic cocktails with different ingredients except for pineapple. However, the pineapple flavor is dominant on both drinks which made us think that they are similar. They tasted the same!

Aside from the hotel rooms, restaurants and swimming pool, Dusit Thani has a lot more facilities to offer such as fitness center, spa, function halls and thr grand ballroom. The hotel is located in the country’s financial. Therefore, it’s near on establishments you need to visit. In fact, Dusit Thani is a just a walking distance away from four malls namely Glorietta, Greenbelt, SM Makati and The Landmark. So you’ll surely love your soon-to-be staycation here as much as I do.
