Frankie’s Biggest Baddest Wings

It’s the 401st day of quarantine period in our region and in almost two years of isolation, I realized that one of the most ordered food in my Grab Food App is Frankie’s New York Buffalo Wings. But even before this pandemic, my boyfriend and I are already long-time fans of Frankie’s.

We first tried them in SM Aura and we never stopped loving them ever since. We thought that they only serve wings until we had a dining experience in an actual Frankie’s restaurant once at Crossroads BGC. Aside from wings and sides, they also offer burgers, pastas, rice meals and cheesecakes. But recently, we are regulars of their stall in MOA Food Hall since it was the nearest from our house.

While my boyfriend is loyal to his Salted Egg Wings, I think, I already tried almost everything in their menu. Here are the dishes that stood out for me.

The Frankie’s Classic Buffalo and Hickory BBQ has almost the same texture and appearance but they’re definitely distinguishable once you tasted them. The Hickory BBQ has a strong flavor of onion. I could sense the smokiness in the sauce. These wings are syrupy like a pancake syrup. On the other hand, Frankie’s Classic Buffalo wings have a flawless touch of tanginess and chiliness. Wings are tender. The meat easily fall off the bone.

We first had the Salted Egg wings back in 2016 and it became an instant fave up until now. “It’s the latest trending flavor and they have it already!”, I first thought. They pulled it off! The wings were swimming in powder. The Honey Garlic is totally sweet. It’s like I’m eating candied chicken or caramel popcorn. It’s more of caramel than honey. It dominated the flavor of garlic though, but the wings are still superb.

Garlic Parmesan | Honey Mustard

There’s no other Garlic Parmesan Wings like Frankie’s. You may say that it has excessive parmesan powder, but when it comes to wings, there’s no such thing as too much cheese. After all, it isn’t satiating since it is balanced with the flavors of garlic. I’m also amazed their Honey Mustard wings. I’m not a fan of mustard but it blended very well with honey that I didn’t realized I was already enjoying it. The sauce clings incredibly to the chicken.

Bacon and Cheese / Caribbean Jerk

Talking about their take-out service, I must say that they packed my wings well. It is best to consume immediately but if you’re planning to consume it the day after, the tip is to request to separate the sauce from the chicken. I had the junior wings and the size decrease to regular is almost unrecognizable. Bacon Cheese gave way to all the flavors of bacon, cheese and chicken. Caribbean Jerk was mildly spicy and deliciously smoky.

Buffalo Chicken Burger

While their wings are undeniably the best, their other dishes stayed ordinary for me. Both Buffalo Chicken Burger and Hungarian Sausage are juicy and spice but I couldn’t discern any wow factor from them, unlike from their wings. However, I still appreciate the burger for having soft buns and thick chicken breast fillet. The buffalo sauce remained outside the fillet so the inside is quite dull-tasting. The fries with it was amazing and well-seasoned though.

Boneless with Rice

Isn’t it obvious that I love buffalo that much? I didn’t know I tried three different buffalo dishes of Frankie’s until now. Anyway, boneless chicken isn’t as flavorful as wings but since there are no bones, I’m happy that nothing’s bothering. It has crunchy thick skin and thick chicken meat inside. Their buffalo sauce is delectable even at mild spiciness, especially when dipped in ranch. I personally think that Frankie’s chicken tenders than that of Wingstop.

Mozzarella Sticks | Onion Rings | French Fries

Among the sides under their Extra St menu, we had Onion Rings, French Fries and Mozzarella Sticks. The latter is gooey but not stretchy, perhaps, because it was already warm when it was served. The sticks were crispy but could be crispier. The accompanying Marinara sauce was finger-licking. Truly, mozzarella and tomato are compatible to each other. In terms of size, thickness and amount, I must say that the Onion Wings are generously served. Frankie’s was able to display the natural sweetness of the white onion through this dish. My frequent side dish at Frankie’s is French Fries and they’re always hot every time I have it to the point that I couldn’t hold a fry. So, the wings are all gone before I could eat the fries. But that isn’t bad. After all, they’re made with natural potatoes. They’re starchy. There isn’t much seasoning to let the natural flavors shine.
