Since we’re here in Boracay, let me tell you about my experience not just in the resort, but also in the island. I know it sounds cliche but believe me when I say that Boracay is indeed a paradise. By simply staring at the crystal blue sea while standing on the bed of powdery white sand, we can already obtain the best of Boracay.

If you think that Boracay was beautiful before, then it is more mesmerizing today. Thanks to the administration for deciding to close the island for a six-month clean up. In relation to this, DENR extended the no-build zone between the shore and establishments from 25 meters to 30 meters. This includes beach beds, umbrellas, sand castles and even fire dancers. And I’m happy with the result.

However, you’ll still meet a lot of vendors offering henna tattoo, braids, massage and water activities. They may be annoying at times. They sometimes disturb our relaxation. But I gave them a try, thinking that their services will make my Boracay vacay worthier. Yep! I like the braid. It gave me a carefree look and feeling. But the helmet diving and island hopping were meh!

We woke up early during our second day to attend the Helmet Diving session. Like any other first-timers, I’m excited because walking under the sea with the fishes and corals around is a one-of-a-kind experience. But we didn’t expect that it would uncomfortable wearing a helmet filled with compressed air. You may be astonished with our photos while we look like astronauts underwater but in reality, we were feeling the pain in our ears. And after dealing with high cost and pain, we only saw few fishes, two piles of corals and sculptures of sea animals. Really? I’m so disappointed. It’s a good thing that I got my souvenir photo because it’s not going to happen again. I’m not discouraging you to try helmet diving. I’m just telling you that this water activity may not be suitable to everyone.

Wanting to regain the fun we wish to have in Boracay, we continued our day with island hopping. We totally had a great island hopping adventure in Puerto Galera so we expect that Boracay would exceed that experience. But it turned out less enjoyable because the strong current didn’t allow us to snorkel. Supposedly, there are two locations for the snorkelling activity – the Crocodile Island and the Coral Garden. When we reached the Crocodile Island, we jumped out of the boat thinking that we could snorkel freely and finally see the corals and fishes. But we all end up reaching for the boat while saving our lives from the big waves. It was indeed a struggle. Other people who came with us didn’t had the chance to take a sneak underwater because they were busy finding their way back to the boat on their own. As for me, I just dipped my head for a second to somehow see what it’s like underwater only to find out dull and brown-colored corals. Because of the strong current, the tour guide decided to cancel our second snorkelling destination. 

In spite of all these unexpected events, it’s already fair to describe this tour as awesome. After all, I got to travel around Boracay and visit and learn more about the beaches in the island.

The white beach, which is the largest and most popular beach in Boracay, is composed of three stations which can be differentiated by analyzing the sand.

Station 3 has the coarsest sand and is the home of budget hotels. Island tours usually starts here.

Henann Regency is located at Station 2. This station is the most populated since it is considered as the business center of Boracay.

You’ll feel expensive if you’re in Station 1 because it is the home of luxurious hotels. It also has the finest sand.

This long stretch of beach will keep on reminding you to buy souvenirs for your friends.

Another beach is called the Puka Beach. Its sand is mixed with small bits of shells and corals. Some parts of the beach were kept untouched.

The island hopping activity also includes lunch from Shingley Piknikan. They provided us fish, grilled chicken, grilled pork and Senorita banana.

The helmet diving felt fine once I touched the ground but I still think that this is only for experience and not for fun.

Although there isn’t much to see here, I appreciate the colorful and lively corals and fishes. Nemo seems happy in his habitat.

In the end, it isn’t hard to fall in love with Boracay. I disagree to those people who says that Boracay is overrated. It is just underappreciated for what it truly holds.
