MLK+T: Bring Your 2D Cartoon Dreams Into Life

Yes! We have our own milk tea shop in our province. But that doesn’t mean that we’re biased with our brand and that we’re not trying other milk teas. My favorite milk tea shop is still Macao Imperial Milk Tea. In Mindoro, aside from Breen Milk Tea, we are frequent visitors of Infinitea. We also tried this newest milk tea shop in Calapan which has its roots in Pampanga – the MLK+T.

The said brand got its immediate prominence in the province through its best-selling and creative MLK+T products. They have the Cloud MLK+T, which features a toasted marshmallow fluff on top, and the Potted MLK+T, which features a certain cream spread inside the cup. They didn’t just show their artistic side in their drinks. They also display it in their interior as they designed their tables and walls with black and white 2d cartoon.

It’s my first time to encounter a toasted marshmallow fluff on a milk tea so I classify it as unique. I think it’s also the reason why it easily got the customers’ attention. I personally like the toasted marshmallow fluff because it resembles a s’more cookie.  The classic milk tea has more tea than milk but I completely understand that it wanted give way to the marshmallow’s creaminess and sweetness. But without this topping, the classic milk tea would be bland.

I assume that Potted MLK+T here is their version of cheese cream series or salted cream series. Either way, I admit that the cream they used here is delish. However, it doesn’t blend literally with the milk tea because they got clumped together. The wintermelon alone is also delicious. It’s different from ours and Infinitea’s but for me, they all have the same level of lusciousness and I don’t understand how it happened.

Mermaid’s Tears is instagrammable and all. It shows gradience of colors when served and changes colors when shaken. But they focused too much on the appearance that they forgot to assess if the flavors they put here would blend flawlessly. I’m not sure about its components but I guess it’s a lemonade with some kind of cherry flavoring and strawberry popping boba. Hey! These are all tangy! So I can get a straight sip from this because it’s acidity is no joke.

Analyzing this drink, I think they combined their Potted MLK+T and Cloud MLK+T. They got the salted cream from Potted MLK+T and they fluff it like in Cloud MLK+T. Then, it’s a Thai-flavored milk tea. What I appreciate the most is the effect of the brown sugar into this drink. It’s almost perfect except for the salted cream. It’s too salty so I didn’t appreciate the Thai flavor that much. And when I finished the drink, there’s a lot of cream left.

Hokkaido

Behind these artisan add-ons and toppings, it’s still better to try the milk tea alone. I had the Hokkaido milk tea because Matcha and Hokkaido were the only available milk teas that time. I like their Hokkaido. It’s not too sweet and I can feel the fullness of the flavor which tastes like toffee. On the other hand, their matcha is the bitter kind, which is near to the authentic taste. The pearls feels and tastes like tikoy. But in fairness, they’re generous with the sinkers.
