If Puerto Galera is known for white sand beaches and Bulalacao is known for unspoiled islands, Baco, the second town from Puerto Galera and the town beside Calapan, is the right destination if you’re looking for clear rivers, which are located at the foot of Mt. Halcon.

One of them is the Tagbungan Mountain Resort, where tourist can experience both natural and man-made watercourse through Lantuyan River and Tagbungan pools respectively. Tagbungan Mountain Resort is one that will give you this taste of the province life.

I was truly stunned at how the resort was laid out. Tagbungan Resort is comprised of a number of pools and falls layered and lined up beside Lantuyan River. What amazes me more is the fact that the pools also uses water from the river.

This is how the system works. From the top of the resort, the water from the river was divided into two – one goes to the man-made pools and one continues to the Lantuyan river. As the water from the pool reaches the last pool, it falls back to the river.

Here’s another fun fact about Tagbungan Resort. Before, the property uses hydroelectricity from the flowing water. Unfortunately, the staff said that their dynamo broke down, which makes it unable to produce power.

People are always talking about the tiled slides beside the river pools. Studying the place, I discovered that they’re not really slides. They are purposely made for the flow of water to fill the pools. But I guess, using this as a slide adds up to the fun.

The longest slide with the strongest water current will take you to the deepest pool. So you need to be cautious especially when you are sliding in groups. In our case, we only knew this when we were pulled down by the persons who slid before us.

However, we chose the river itself because obviously, the water is more unclouded here to the point that I can clearly see the stone underwater. For sure, you would also want to plunge to its cold water, especially when the sun is scorching.

The only hot water was in the legit swimming pool located at their garden beside the reception. With the blue water and green trees, it seems refreshing to take a dip here. But still, most people prefer the pools by the river.

Although there are a lot of groups having their outing in Tagbungan, they will never run out of cabanas to shelter. Cottages of different kinds are everywhere, may it be air-conditioned, videoke-equipped, for overnight stay or a simple hut.

As for us, we rented this spacious cottage located at the resort proper near the reception area. The room fits 20 sleeping heads. It’s so spacious that we managed to have a boodle feast beside it.

I can be fussy at times but honestly, I appreciate the structures. The resort is for the mass but they upgraded their halls, cottages and even their shower rooms. Although these weren’t made with expensive materials, they were able to maintain cleanliness.

Since the place is located at the foot of Mt. Halcon, we started seeing Mangyans in nearby areas. In fact, crossing the river will lead guests to Mangyan village. We weren’t able to visit but from afar, I can see a chapel and a school apart from their houses.

From this side, we can see the Lantuyan Bridge, the hanging bridge Mangyans use to cross the river. It’s quite far from our cottage and resort proper so we didn’t mind going there anymore.

I thought that it was my first time in Tagbungan. But when I finally got home, my mom told me that we’ve been there back when I was still a toddler. My mom showed me photos of our family 18 years ago enjoying the same river.

Wow! I’m happy to know that for a long time, Tagbungan still has the ability to attract tourists from other parts or even outside Mindoro. Until now, the management was able to maintain the beauty of the resort and cleanliness of the river.

There’s no denying that we absolutely enjoyed our day in Tagbungan Mountain Resort and Lantuyan River. I must say that if you really want to enjoy the serenity of the nature, this is the right place.
