North Park Noodle House: Classic Chinoy Comfort Food You’ve Come To Love

It’s the 328th day of quarantine period in our region and I think, you are wondering where I am and why I chose this photo. I’m in one of our go-to Chinese restaurants, North Park Noodle House, and this is my only photo in connection with the restaurant. My boyfriend took a candid photo of me as an update to his friend. But anyways, let’s talk about North Park Noodle House and its food.

Among the large number of restaurants in the food industry, North Park stands out in delivering real and freshly cooked food at generous servings and reasonable prices. North Park goes beyond the usual Chinese cuisine – it is uniquely Chinoy concocted to Pinoy tastes.

Nanking Beef with Rice

The beef is undeniably flavorful and soft. You’ll immediately know that it’s tender just by picking using fork. I just think it is better if the beef is served over rice like a rice bowl. Nanking Beef, I guess, is the Chinese-style braised beef. Taste is similar to Hap Chan’s Beef Brisket and just like my boyfriend treats Hap Chan’s Beef Brisket, my boyfriend also keeps coming back to North Park because of Naking Beef.

Pork Rib and Wonton Noodles in Soup

I don’t know the Chinese term for it but I want to say that the noodle doneness is al dente, as Italians say it. With this noodle texture, one would just enjoy munching the noodles. It has generous amount of noodles, too. The broth is full of flavor but it’s the opposite for the pork rib. It may be tender but doesn’t show much flavor, perhaps, because it is already soaked into the soup. Thanks to the wonton! It added more lusciousness.

Fresh Prawn Dumpling Superior Soup

I honestly don’t know how this became superior and how it differs to other soup. With only the main ingredient, fresh prawn dumpling, pechay and broth, the soup is just simple. But without expecting much, I must say that it’s fine. The beefy broth and comforting and savory. The shrimp dumpling is just a shrimp in wrapper but its simplicity made it delish. We’re used to processed dumplings so it’s refreshing to see something like this.

Salted Garlic Squid

I was buying this ever since and I noticed that the serving is getting smaller and smaller. It’s a good thing that the flavor has been consistent. It’s delectable but for my taste preference, it lacks saltiness. The squid cuts were thick and I’m glad that they are not tricking us with the size because the crust is thin. This dish reminds me of Modern Shanghai’s Deep Fried Squid with Spicy Salt and Pepper. This is not as good but this isn’t bad at all, too.

Broccoli Flower in Oyster Sauce

I honestly have no idea about this Chinese dish and I really thought that the broccolis were cooked in oyster sauce. But it came separated. I have no complaints though because through this, I was able to appreciate the vegetable more when it is just simply steamed. The flowers were chewy and I can even feel the fresh juices of broccoli. The oyster sauce is yummy. I wish it has more sauce. It’s great paired with North Park’s Nanking Beef.

Nestea Iced Tea | Fresh Lemonade

I asked what drinks they would recommend and they brought us their fresh lemonade. Yep! It’s delicious, not too sweet and not too sour. It’s just sad that at the time of our visit, most of their drinks, including the unique ones, were unavailable. I planned to order Cold Chrysanthemum Juice but ended up having Nestea Iced Tea. But they chose the right brand of iced tea since Nestea is indeed a refresher. They added sliced lemons so plus points for the effort.

Szechuan Tan Tan Mien Braised Noodles

The dried Tan Tan noodles has the right texture and are playfully thin. They are flavorful on their own. However, they are still sticking to each even cooked. The sauce has bold flavors of chilliness and pungency just like how it is in Sichuan cuisine. The meat is soft and is generously served. I’m surprised to find out that this noodles is for sharing but I was so hungry. I ate it on my own. The dish has balanced proportion of sauce and noodles.

Kikiam | Century Egg and Jelly Fish Salad

I tried North Park through GrabFood delivery and I love their eco-friendly packaging. It’s has complete condiments and has no cutlery as requested. North Park is actually offering the traditional kikiam from China, which has real meat in it. The Century Egg and Jelly Fish Salad is just like any other Century Egg and Jelly Fish Salad from other Chinese restaurants.  There’s nothing fancy. But I wasn’t expecting that because it, at least, satisfied my cravings.
