Best Of Meiji

If there’s one Japanese thingy that has been there as I was growing up aside from anime, sushi and karaoke, I must say that it is Meiji. I could see them often in groceries. Their products are some things that kids would pick beside the counter before their mom says no. I’m glad that my mother allowed to bring some of Meiji biscuits to grade school for recess. It is indeed part of every 90’s kid’s childhood.

Now, I would like to reminisce those memories by trying out ten different products of Meiji. Here’s a little background about Meiji. Basically, the company is a manufacturer and seller of milk and dairy products, confectioneries, and other foods based in Japan. It is the number one chocolate manufacturer in the Japanese market by sales. But apart from chocolates, they also produce milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, beauty supplements and nutritional products and export them worldwide. However, since Meiji is know here in the Philippines for their chocolates, I’ll have here ten Meiji chocolates to feature.

Strawberry Chocolate

I didn’t bother reviewing Meiji Chocolate Bar because it’s their flagship product and everyone knows how great it is. But hey! They have a Strawberry Chocolate which I discovered just now. The chocolate here is not as soft and creamy as the original chocolate bar. However, I like the tanginess of the strawberry. There are even seeds in it!

Hello Panda

Ask every 90’s Filipino kids and they’ll tell you that Hello Panda is one of their childhood snack. Before I got to even picture Meiji’s products, my boyfriend already snatched my Hello Panda! I insisted him to replace that one. He said it is a quality product. Of course! This has become my standard when it comes to chocolate-filled biscuit.

Yan Yan

Meiji’s Yan Yan is another childhood snack of every Filipinos. Actually, when I think of a biscuit stick product with a dip, Yan Yan is the first thing that comes to my mind. Its bread sticks are totally delish. The chocolate and strawberry dip is super creamy and silky. I literally licked the cup to get the most out of it.

Macadamia

Packaging seems expensive and the chocolate seems high quality. I must say that their best and creamiest chocolate is in this box. The macadamia nuts are soft. They also have Almonds but it’s in almost every chocolate brand so I tried a new nut only to find out that almonds are still better based on my preference.

Choco Baby

Gosh! These are so cute. They are like pellets. These chocolate bits look small but they’re big in mouth because they are rich in flavor. It has the right sweetness and creaminess. Like Apollo, Marble Chocolate, Gummy Choco and Coffee Beats, this comes in smaller boxes. But you can have a great deal of choco babies in that small box.

Apollo

Meiji Apollo consist of chocolates like little kisses. They are so tiny but the small box contains plenty. They are in strawberry and milk chocolate flavor and I admire it because in these small pieces, I was able to distinguish the two flavors. I like the chocolate goodness of the brown part because it’s milky while the pink part is fruity. The two complements each other.

Marble Chocolate

I’ve tried candy-coated chocolate products before and honestly, M&M’s is my favorite. Meiji’s Marble Chocolate couldn’t beat M&M’s but I must say that this is better than Nips and Goya Bits. The flavor of the candy is dominant, which makes it extra sweet. Some prefers that way. Some doesn’t. But I like that it has strong and crispy candy coating.

Coffee Beat

For coffee lovers out there, this is the one for us! They are in the form of coffee bean! So adorable! Like Marble Chocolate, it’s also a candy-coated chocolate but here, everything has a hint of coffee. I can’t help but be amazed. It was like I’m sipping mocha but in candy form. There’s milk, coffee and chocolate at the same time. I think I found my new fave in Meiji.

Gummy Choco

The idea of covering chocolate into gummy candy is unique. It seems weird but it’s actually good. I was just expecting that the gummy candy would have a pinkish appearance so I can show it in the photo. But it’s dark so I was like “nevermind.” I was surprised that the tanginess of the strawberry gummy candy suits the sweetness of the chocolate.

Lucky Stick

As I said, when it comes to chocolate-filled biscuits, I choose Meiji’s Hello Panda over Lotte‘s Koala’s March. But when it cones to choco-covered biscuit stick, I prefer Lotte’s Pepero than Meiji’s Lucky Stick. But since we’re already comparing the two, Lucky Stick has thicker biscuit but thinner chocolate layer.
