Delizioso Dishes At Grillo Pizzeria Ristorante

I was deeply gladdened when I found out about the newly-opened restaurant in Calapan. In my mind, I was already planning when to visit Grillo Pizzeria Ristorante even though the city is two hours away from our town. But I was happier when I discovered that this pizza and pasta place is an Italian restaurant. Apart from Pizzeria Milano, finally, there’s another restaurant in Calapan that will give us the authentic taste of Italy. I can guarantee you that because the owner of Grillo Pizzeria Ristorante is an Italian chef. Wow! And I’m a witness of the authenticity of their food as I, myself, had a taste of their Italian dishes, which are truly delizioso.

I was kinda disappointed with their Pizza Mediterranea because despite of having a thin crust, the pizza is soggy that it can’t hold itself. On the good side, I can’t deny that it’s delish. The cheese was gooey, the toppings were thinly sliced and the dough was yummy. Actually, I never thought that eggplant, cucumber and zucchini would be pizza toppings. I just can’t feel their freshness though. And it would dull without hot sauce.

When we tried Pizza Nostromo during our next visit, I realized that it’s really their way of making pizza crust because again, the slice can’t be lifted by hand. The only crispy part is the cornicione, which has a consistent flavor. Its main ingredient is tuna and I think, the pizza successfully got its flavor as I can still savor the juices of the tuna chunks. It also has a great deal of the other toppings such as tomato and olives.

 

Pasta Pirata

I must admit. I didn’t like Grillo’s Pasta Pirata mainly because the saltiness of the seafood dominated in this pasta, beating the tanginess of the tomato sauce. Nevertheless, I still commend this dish for providing fresh flavors of shell fishes, shrimp and squid. Their pizza and pasta may not qualify my taste preferences, but I will be honest when I say that Grillo is the best when it comes to entrees. So please keep reading because the next dishes will make you drool.

 

Zuppa di Pesce

Can you see that big prawn swimming in my soup? If that thing doesn’t allure you, I don’t know what will. But this Zuppa di Pesce isn’t only about the prawn because all kinds of seafood in this soup like mussels, shrimps and squid rings were freshly and lusciously cooked. In fact, we treated this soup as a main course because of the generous serving of seafood. On the other hand, the tomato-infused stock was soothing. It blends perfectly with the seafood.

 

Mozzarella Carroza

The cheese stick lover in me wanted to try their Mozzarella Carroza badly. It’s like an upgraded version of the famous Filipino street food. However, it is triangular in shape and much bigger and thicker. It’s crunchy in the outside and soft and gooey in the inside. Just imagine how the cheese stretches when I bite! I like how the spices and cucumber enhanced the sauce. I also tried dipping it in tomato sauce and it’s also good. I felt like a kid eating her Chicken Joy happily.

 

Pizzaiola

Their Pizzaiola is among my favorites! It has the traditional flavors of Italy and doesn’t try hard to be authentic. Its taste resembles a classic pizza because of the tomato and mozzarella. But this one’s absolutely better because we are talking about steak here! Even the meat alone is juicy. Moreover, the side dish is the best mashed potato I’ve tried. It is grinded finely and has a kick of meat flavors in it. We even bought separate order of the it whenever we dine or take out.

 

Chicken Kebab

I was used to seeing kebab as small cuts of meat skewered on a stick. But what landed on our table was different and better. The chicken was ground and rolled into a big chunk, which makes it full and compact. That explains the herbs and flavorings inside. The dish has only two sticks but the size of the meat, I guess, is equal to five sticks of barbecue. The accompanying fries and grilled vegetables were also well-seasoned and has a taste of Tex-Mex.

 

Fileto di Pesce

Until now, I can’t decide which Grillo dish is my top favorite among Zuppa di Pesce, Pizzaiola and this one – Fileto di Pesce. They are all exceptional. This fish fillet was just simple. They only let the real flavor of the salmon come out but keeping it natural makes the fish incredibly delicious. You can say that it’s perfect because of the crunchy skin and pink flesh. And I can’t finish this without recognizing the goodness of the steamed veggies on the side.
