Happy National Strawberry Day!

February isn’t just the season for Valentine. It’s also the month when we celebrate another heart-shaped and red-colored thing. Since February is also the harvest season for strawberries, we celebrate National Strawberry Day, happening every 27th day of the month!

Strawberries have been around since the early 18th century, and ever since then they have become a favorite among many people. Not only are they incredibly tasty, but they are also packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that provide numerous health benefits.

National Strawberry Day gives us the perfect opportunity to enjoy these sweet berries. These juicy berries are delicious on their own and can brighten up any dish at the same time. I’ve collected some of the recipes you can do with strawberries to celebrate the day.

Strawberry Shortcake

Of course, we have to start with the most popular strawberry cake in the world. United Kingdom’s Strawberry Shortcake is a layered dessert made with fresh strawberries, whipped cream and scone-like cake. The sweet marriage of strawberry and shortcake is irresistible. This cake is so common that some people consider at as a flavor now. I actually transformed Strawberry Shortcake into trifle.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Sando

You probably expect Japanese Strawberry Cream Cheese Sando in this list already because I’m currently selling them online. So we’ll have that first in our list. In Japan, sando is essentially short for sandwich so when I say Japanese Fruit Sando, it actually refers to fruit sandwich. A popular fruit to use is strawberry, which is then called Strawberry Sando. What makes these sandwich unique is the mosaic design that’s revealed when cut in half.

Strawberry Milk

From Japan, we fly all the way to Korea to taste Strawberry milk, a homestyle drink made with fresh strawberries and fresh milk, thus, giving it a pure, unadulterated flavor. It’s a popular drink in Korea served during the summertime in many cafes that’s why many Kdrama and Kpop fans are also addicted to it. Strawberry Milk is actually my first product under the Ane Venture‘s brand.

Strawberry Meringue Cake

I remember making this one Christmas Eve. I planned to make Pavlova, a meringue-based cake, originating in Australia. But my meringue-making skills is so limited. I couldn’t perfect that whipped egg whites. I tried making meringue as base for my Pavlova but it went so messy so I ended up having an Eton Mess, a traditional English Dessert consisting of strawberries, meringue and whipped cream. After all, the dessert still tasted amazing.

Strawberry Sangria

I’m no alcohol drinker. But sangria and fruit punches are exceptions! As I search for my next strawberry project, I discovered the famous Chilean sangria, locally known as Borgoña, a cocktail that combines red wine, fresh strawberries and homemade strawberry syrup. This strawberry sangria is a staple on Fiestas Patrias or holidays that mark the beginning of the Chilean independence process.

Strawberry Muffins

Fresh and juicy strawberries also makes moist and delectable American muffins. I’m actually not a fan of muffins because I find them boring. But with strawberry bits and strawberry jam as fillings, that’s a different discussion already. The bursting strawberry makes a lonely muffin vibrant in terms of visuals and in terms of taste. Moreover, it’s easy to make, mix and bake.

Strawberry Ice Cream Soda

I see that we’re taking turns of strawberry food and beverages. Surely, strawberries make a good ingredient for both items. Now, we have Strawberry Ice Cream Soda. It’s something you’ll grab when you’re looking for a refreshing and cool drink this summer. It’s easy and fun to make. It only takes four steps of mixing that even a year-old kid can make if guided by parents.

Strawberry Chocolate Brownies

If there’s one flavor combination that I have to recommend, that’s strawberry and chocolate. The intensity and silkiness of chocolate serve as a stark contrast to the fresh and refreshing taste of fruit. These Strawberry Chocolate Brownies are proof that these two has a marriage made in heaven. I was making these brownies when I was still in college but I can still remember how incredible they were. After all, who can’t resist rick and fudgy brownies?

Strawberry Cobbler

Try having Strawberry Cobbler! The sweetness of the berry and the crispiness of the crust are perfect combination for the day. Cobblers refers to a variety of dishes, particularly in UK and US, consisting of a fruit or savoury filling poured into a large baking dish and covered with a batter, biscuit, or dumpling before being baked. This time, it’s the strawberry’s time to shine.

Strawberry and Hazelnut Yogurt Parfait

The Strawberry and Hazelnut Yogurt Parfait is one of my earlier inventions when I was just starting to blog so the combination is kinda messed up. But I’ll still add this parfait on the list because it was actually delicious. Combining two spreads, which are strawberry jam and Nutella, is a great idea, actually. Turning them into yogurt was also amazing. It can be a nice alternative to the frozen yogurts sold commercially.
