Torre De Macau: The Famous Landmark Of Macau Skyline

Macau is a lively city full of most energetic and exciting experiences. Visiting Macau Tower, or Torre de Macau, is one of the exhilarating experiences tourists can not miss. Therefore, it was the first in our Macau tour itinerary. Before heading to our Cotai trip, we started our morning at Macau Tower since it was along the way.

Macau Tower is the tenth tallest sightseeing tower in the world and the highest commercial bungee jump facility, according to Guinness World Records. The striking 338-meter tower boasts of an observation deck, cinema, revolving deck, and an adventure zone. Apart from being a viewing platform, Macau Tower also takes up the task of local telecommunications and broadcasting transmission.

Macau Tower has become one of Macau Peninsula’s icons, alongside Ruins of St. Paul’s and Grand Lisboa. Being the tallest structure in Macau since it opened in 2001, the tower is visible from a number of vantage points throughout the city. I’ve been to Penha Hill, Taipa Pequena Lookout, Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge and Sai Van Bridge and its turret is always peeking.

An admission ticket gives a guest an access on both observation lounge and adventure deck, which are located at the 58th floor and 61st floor respectively. The observation lounge is an air-conditioned view deck that is enclosed with glass walls. There were even glass tiles that directly overlook on the ground. Here, there’s a mini gallery, where you can explore macau’s handmade crafts. The adventure deck is also bordered with glasses but the roof is open. It has doors leading to outer perimeter of the tower. Our visit was nice because it wasn’t crowded.

We were fascinated with the panorama of the islands of Macau, Lantau and Zhuhai. From above, we could see the waterways and bridges that separates these islands, which are covered with vibrant skyscrapers. I’m sure this looks better at night. We perceived some recognizable structures like the Grand Lisboa, MGM Macau and Chapel of Our Lady of Penha. The space with colorful tents right there is the Macao Food Festival.

Macau Tower offers Skywalk X, a thrilling walking tour around the outer rim at a height of 233 meters above ground. From the adventure deck, we could see the brave souls, having their stroll outside. From here, availing guests can also climb 100 more meters up the mast’s vertical ladders to get on the very top of the tower. Moreover, Skyjump and Bungy Jump allows you to jump from the observation deck to the base of the tower. It’s officially ranked as the world’s highest bungee jump!

The levels between the two observation decks are designed for theme restaurants. The 60th floor has a large revolving restaurant which can help customers overlook the scenery around the whole Macau while enjoying delicious food from various cuisines. The 59th floor is an open-air bar that offers 180 degree views. It would be an amazing experience to dine at one of these restaurants but we opted to skip this actual to give way to our next destinations.

Since Macau Tower is actually a mall on its first few floors, non-ticket holders can still visit this famous tourist spot and enjoy shopping and eating at its establishments. It has a boardwalk by the bay, where you can take a photo with the unobstructed view of the tower and the Praia Grande Bay. This is also where bungy jumpers would land. Sadly, we weren’t able to witness jumpers when we’re here.

A wide array of merch is available for sale. There was even a mini green screen studio by the entrance where every guest has the opportunity to have their photo taken. They’ll edit this, have the facade of Macau Tower at the background, print, put in frame and display by the exit to attract interested buyers. It was too expensive for a simple photo so we didn’t claim ours. We decided to leave without buying any souvenirs because we can get them in Senado Square at a lower price.

We were fortunate to catch the annual Macao Food Festival at Sai Van Lake Square, just beneath the Macau Tower. is home to over 100 food and beverage merchants and a wide range of exquisite dishes and delicacies. With stage performances and booth games around, these mouth-watering flavors underscore the diversified gastronomic culture and the charms of Macao as a Creative City of Gastronomy.

We actually visited Macau Tower in the morning but because of the night market, we returned at dinner time to engage in this food event. We tried the grilled prawns, squids and oysters, which may be underseasoned yet tasty because of natural flavors. The Mung Bean Rice Balls were gigantic here! The milk teas are must-tries. I noticed that the candied strawberries are the crowd’s favorite but I found them sour when I had a try. Of course, I can’t leave the venue without trying the famous Portuguese Egg Tart. However, I still prefer Lord Stow’s.

I would like to end this blog by commending the guards of Macau Tower, which are mostly from the Philippines. I must say that they hired the right employees because Filipinos are top-notch when it comes to hospitality and diligence. Throughout our tour, we can see that they were doing their job well in guiding the visitors and securing the place at the same time. It wasn’t hard to be friends with these two, who even shared stories as we revel in the beauty of the place.
