#TheAdventureGoesOn At Ocean Adventure

I don’t know but the two-year quarantine made us want to do a lot of stuff and this includes being a kid again.

I’ve been hearing its name ever since a was a kid and every time I think of it, I imagine a dreamlike place with fun adventures that await. It’s every kid’s childhood wish to visit the theme park even once in their life. Being very familiar with Manila Ocean Park, I have high expectations on Subic Ocean Adventure.

We also met some rare animals like the adorable Palawan Bearcat, which is my favorite among the pack. We learned more about owls, Rofous hornbill, reticulated python, giant fruit bats, squirrels and more. Even though we have already ten dogs at house, it’s still a delight to see a pup on stage.

But Zoe and Erli, the sea lions we met, are so naughty to imitate seals. It’s so fun to watch them twirl, twist, jump and glide, making the guests groove with them. I was with the elementary kids cheering for these awesome creatures.

The dolphin show, Sentinels of the Sea, was as amazing as the first two. The dolphins didn’t just dance on their own. They also played with their trainers, showing us the extraordinary bond between dolphins and humans. It left us wondering how they taught these dolphins because we couldn’t believe that they can understand humans. Amazing, right?

Ocean Adventure is located directly in a seaside so while watching, we get this magnificent panoramic view of the bay of Subic. Sticking to their theme as an open-water marine park, they actually conduct their Sentinels of the Sea show in this part of the ocean. I truly appreciate the water’s clarity and cleanliness. It just indicates that the ocean here is well-taken care of.

During intervals of the shows, we roamed around other parts of Ocean Adventure and visited the 3D Wall Art and Voyager Aquarium, which exhibits some exotic marine animals. There isn’t much to see actually. The tour is just short. We literally said, “‘Yon na ‘yon?” Ocean Discovery Aquarium was also closed during the time of our visit.

We saw a few snack stores in Ocean Adventure but most of them are still not operational. We spotted an open ice cream shop only to find out common ice creams like Cornetto. I was assuming some homemade ice creams being scooped to cones. This is a amusement theme park so I wish to feel the magic up to the food we eat.

Speaking of food, we spent our lunch in their in-house restaurant, a turo-turo restaurant where some dishes are pre-cooked and displayed. Our family had chopsuey, lechon kawali, fried chicken and crab and corn soup. There’s nothing special about the food. They’re just usual Filipino home-cooked dishes. But I’m not saying they’re bad either.

This is where Koi fishes are suppose to swim but sadly, we witnessed a drained pond instead. Well, the compound is actually quite a mess when we visited. Perhaps, it was the effect of pandemic. They weren’t able to take care of the surroundings when the world shut down for a moment. I hope the liveliness of the park will return and I wish to see beautiful landscapes of their gardens soon.

Along Ilanin Road, we noticed a lot of naturals parks and forest reserves. It’s nice to see healthy flora and fauna here. Just like them, it seems that Ocean Adventure’s advocacy is for the environment. Every after the show, they gave us message on how we can protect the Earth through little ways since our habitat is also the animal’s habitat.

However, for me, it’s quite ironic that they have to steal the lives of dolphins, sea lions and other wild animals for exhibitions like this. Instead of swimming and wandering to that big ocean, they are here living in small aquariums to work. In this picture, we were having a peek on the Sea Lion Underwater Viewing. Instead of joy, I felt pity for these animals. I just hope that they are truly feeling the love here.
