Where To Eat In Calapan

© Sia Venture

It’s the 335th day of quarantine period in our region and while we’re locked in our respective provinces, I got the chance to learn more about my own. Seeing the eating habits of my fellow Mindoreños, I must say that the people of Calapan and Pinamalayan are the hungriest. You can also see these towns having the most number of restaurants, aside from Puerto Galera. Old restaurants are staying strong. New restaurants are popping here and there as if there is no crisis brought by the pandemic. And that’s one thing I love about Calapan.

Listed down are some of the must-try restaurants in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro.

Casa Estela Cafe

Casa Estela is the first ever boutique hotel in Calapan. Checking their rooms feels like having a staycation in Manila. But it was their cafe that attracted me the most since the cafe really invested on interiors. The design is a mixture of mediterranean and modern so the environment is pleasing to the eye and cozy to stay at the same time.

MND Coffee and Bar

The same goes for MND Coffee and Bar. With warm lights, intricate wall arts, wooden tables and bars and greenery decors, the interior is planned the way millennials would love. Actually, it’s not hard to take good photos because the place itself is already instagrammable. It’s the coffee hub you will choose if you need a place to study or bond with friends.

Porch Cafe by Mari

I remember how this cabin-like restaurant attracted me when we first visited. Porch Cafe by Mari feels like a house that opened its porch to accomodate customers who would like to have a cozy dining experience and, at the same time, eat comfort food at its best. The restaurant serves handmade pastas, juicy burgers, specialty coffees and more.

Araenia’s Hapag Kainan sa Kabukiran

Arsenia’s Hapag Kainan sa Kabukiran has been there for a long time, offering homecooked dishes mainly for travelers. The spot is a usual stopover in Calapan if one wants to take a quick lunch. It started as a simple carinderia with huts along the highway of Biga. But due to the restaurant’s strong presence to the customers, the place kept improving.

Dutch Cafe

Dutch Cafe is a mini cafe stationed inside the compound of Filipiniana Hotel. It offers great food and amazing drinks ranging from rice meals, heavy snacks, pastas, salads, coffees and frappes. Aside from witnessing a relaxing vibe and modernly ambiance, we are really entertained of the accommodating crew.

Ten 2 One Restobar

Ten 2 One Restobar is named as such because it opens from 10:00 am to 1:00 am. You’ll find us here when we are having late or midnight dinner. This is one advantage of Ten 2 One. With the engaging music from the live band in the background, we spend our dinner here while others enjoy their beers. During the day, they offer casual Filipino dishes.

Kamil’s Bakeshop | Peaches N’ Cream

I can’t finish this blog without mentioning the leading bakeshops in Calapan. Kamil’s Bakeshop and Peaches N’ Cream are my top choices when I’m in need of cakes. But hey! Online bakers slash sellers, who revealed themselves during the pandemic, like Clayanna’s Artisan Cakes and Pastries Shop, are also gaining loyal customers.
