Where To Eat In Pinamalayan

© Renthel Cueto

My hometown, Pinamalayan, is currently at its booming state. Its residents, who used to live in a rural setting, are now getting a glimpse of city life as fast food chains and known convenience stores are emerging in this small town. Growing up with only simple carinderias around us, we were surprised by the number of new restaurants popping in every corner of Pinamalayan. And it’s a pleasure for us, Pinamaleños, because these home-grown food houses are living proof that our town is a food destination as well.

Listed down are some of the must-try restaurants in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro.

Of course, everyone expects Dine at Log on this list. The cabin restaurant is known for their healthy yet luscious dishes. I love that they are now living in farm-to-fork concept. Recently, they revealed that they farm their own meat and veggies and bake their own pastries. Hence, customers are guaranteed that the food are made from fresh and quality ingredients.

KAPayE Filipinas

The main reason I keep coming back to KAPayE Filipinas is the coziness it delivers to customers. Living in a digital and modern world, the customer’s judgment on restaurants has now evolved. Apart from having luscious food offerings, a restaurant now must possess a relaxing ambiance and an Instagram-worthy interior to be on the spotlight. It wasn’t hard for KAPayE Filipinas to hitch that spot because the restaurant carries all of those attributes.

Pedro’s takes a fresh venture in the town’s food culture as it offers a fusion of Tex-Mex and Filipino cuisine. They even brought and introduced Peri-Peri Chicken, a Portuguese grilled chicken, to Pinamaleños. Apart from their signature dish, there’s more to try that customers will surely love.

Kazoku is the first Japanese restaurant that was built in Pinamalayan so I’m giving them credit for being the first to introduce ramen, sushi, tempura, miso, yakisoba, tonkatsu and tepanyaki into our town. I’ve also heard that they expanded their food house and included Filipino dishes and Chinese hot pot so there’s a lot more to choose from.

Par Nee Restaurant

Adding up to the wide array of dining places in Pinamalayan is Par Nee Restaurant, located a few steps away from us so we didn’t think twice on trying it out. Par Nee came from the word “Parine”, which means “come here”. It’s a word you’ll most likely hear in Mindoro. So when you say, “Parine, makain” here in Mindoro, it means, “Come here, let’s eat.”

I’ve always regarded Abing’s Grill as the restaurant for students because it is not only for those who just got their monthly salary, but it is also for those who has a limited budget. Plus, Abing’s Grill is located near schools. After all, students will definitely be rewarded with a fantastic lunch when they spend their school break at Abing’s Grill.

Remedios Cafe

Remedios Cafe offers dishes that are similar to West Asian’s with a twist of Filipino touch. But Remedios Cafe’s shawarmas and kebabs are different because the flavors are closer to the authentic. The owner worked in Saudi Arabia, if I remembered it correctly, so it’s like she brought the real thing in Pinamalayan.

Street Grind | The Country Bean

As our town evolve, there was also a rise in the number of coffee shops in Pinamalayan. Two of the town’s pride when it comes to crafting coffee are Street Grind and The Country Bean. The former uses moka pot method while the latter brew their coffee using espresso machine. No matter what process of brewing they work on, both cafes are sure to provide a good cup of joe. I tried them myself!
